This year I thought the nominations were diverse in genre and portrayals. There were a couple snubs that in my opinion should definitely be recognized by the Academy. These are what I think were snubbed from this year’s Oscars:
Armie Hammer – Call Me By Your Name (Supporting Actor)
Evermore/How Does a Moment Last Forever – Beauty and the Beast (Best Song)
Ryan Gosling – Blade Runner 2049 (Best Actor)
Blade Runner 2049 and IT for Best Original Score
Luca Guadagnino – Call Me By Your Name (Best Director)
Other than that I was mostly pleased with the nominations, who won them I was also pleased with the results although this year they were really predictable. My biggest complaint is that Gary Oldman won instead of Timothee Chalamet, it’s wrong for Oldman to get all the awards, he basically led this year’s Best Actor race. I agree with the Best Picture, to me it was between Shape of Water, Call Me By Your Name or Three Billboards so I’m happy about that. One of the more surprising things although is that all of the Best Picture nominees went home with something except for Lady Bird which was unfortunate. It wasn’t a memorable or wildly entertaining Oscars but it was still fun. My favourite moments include
Guillermo Del Toro checking the Best Picture envelope
Francis McDormand and Alison Janney’s speeches
The performances particularly Remember Me from Coco
Roger Deakins winning for Blade Runner 2049
Jordan Peele winning Best Original Screenplay for Get Out
All in all it honestly felt a bit awkward like they were trying to make up for last year’s incident although I liked the Jet Ski bit. What did you think?
