In Depth Review of the How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World trailer!

Almost four full years have gone since the last How To Train Your Dragon movie came out and now we finally have the very first look at the epic conclusion to one of the best trilogies ever made! This will be an in-depth discussion of the trailer which will include some spoilers from the other two movies so SPOILER ALERT!

So the trailer starts off with a small montage of Hiccup and Toothless over the years from their encounter up to now. Hiccup is narrating and he says and I quote “There were dragons when I was a boy.” For those of you who don’t know the first book in the HTTYD series opens with that very line: the photo below belongs to me, what the photo shows belongs to Cressida Cowell, the author of the books.img_20180607_184646-e1528390344452.jpg

Then we see an adult version of Hiccup way older than he is now with a beard and everything. Toothless is still standing side by side with him and it’s beautiful to see this friendship represented in different stages of Hiccup’s life. It’s so impressive to see how they even made Toothless age, they are subtle differences but they make all the change.vlcsnap-2018-06-07-17h58m16s689

He then says that he and his friends have successfully made a viking and dragon utopia, (a new Berk) seeing as he was named Chief after Stoick died in the second movie. Then there’s a shot with Hiccup and Gobber. There isn’t much to say about that shot so I’ll just show the picture.

Now the real stuff begins, we are shown the very first shot of the Light Fury or Toothless’s love interest. She has the ability to teleport when she enters her own blast, I couldn’t get a good shot of that sorry. There is a hilarious montage of Toothless trying to impress her and Hiccup is his wingman and he is aiding him which obviously fails.

Next there is a shot of Hiccup and Astrid on Stormfly but Toothless isn’t around, my theory is that he went flying on his own to find her or that he was captured by the villain which we’ll discuss in a moment. So Hiccup and Astrid are going through an underwater portal, which you guessed it, leads to The Hidden World and it’s a beautiful avatar-like place which must look gorgeous on the big screen. There are these mini-dragons which have a fluorescent appearance.

Then there’s the scene I was talking about with wingman Hiccup and the Light Fury so I’ll skip that since I talked about it. Now there’s the villain of this movie, Grimmel. He has hunted every single Night Fury (explains a lot) and wants Toothless, Hiccup obviously refuses and the fire-sword which was briefly used in the second movie makes an appearance here again. It looks like he’ll be using it way more in this movie.

The Light Fury gets captured. Hiccup says that no one is safe on Berk so they have to “disappear, completely off the map” and he encourages and convinces Berk to fight for those dragons, Berk civilians cheer, precious hug between Toothless and Hiccup.

Like most trailer it ends with a montage of a lot of awesome and cool stuff happening so since everything is happening really fast, I can’t discuss but I will show you some shots because they look great so:

Then there’s a bonus mini-clip at the end where we get a glimpse of Ragnarok version of Toothless with lightning connecting to him Thor style. It looks awesome and I cannot wait, yet I can wait a lot because I don’t want this franchise to be over.

Are you excited for this movie? Have you seen the other two, if not will you now?

How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World will hit UK cinemas in February 2019!
