In all honesty, I never cared for Aquaman (the character), not just this portrayal but in general. I didn’t really take notice of him in Justice League (2017) so I wasn’t really anticipating this trailer. Also I don’t know anything about the character, sometimes when I see a character I like in a movie or TV show, I am instantly intrigued and I want to know more about the character, this wasn’t the case with Aquaman. The only things I know about Aquaman is that his human name is Arthur Curry, he is (I think) the King of Atlantis and he talks to fish. That’s it.
ALSO DISCLAIMER: I DON’T KNOW WHO BLACK MANTA IS.
I kept an open mind and I watched the trailer and by the end of it, only two things came to mind. One of them was, why on Earth would they release this in December and the other thing was indecisiveness. I can’t tell if it’s going to be good or bad, it looks a bit average in my opinion. I don’t know if I’ll watch it in cinemas, maybe I’ll wait for it on digital. To be honest I’d rather spend money to see Mary Poppins Returns. I’m a much bigger fan of musicals than Aquaman.
That being said, if there was one reason to go, it would definitely be Atlantis. I literally gasped when I saw it. It looks stunning, the world building is strong with this one. I like the fact that James Wan is directing, it’s interesting to see how a horror movie director will do with an action blockbuster. I think that this movie will be revolutionary effects wise. It reminded me a lot of Avatar actually.
Jason Mamoa is Jason Mamoa. By that I mean that he always plays the cool, badass character with awesome hair. Aquaman doesn’t really change that. Not saying I’m against it because it’s what he’s good at after all but it would be nice to see some actual character development in these movies. To be honest I need another trailer to convince me to watch it. I am way more excited for ‘Shazam!’ than this.
What do you think? Does this appeal to you? Mary Poppins Returns or Aquaman, who will win December?
Aquaman will hit cinemas this December.
