WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS FOR
AVENGERS: ENDGAME AHEAD!
Right off the bat, the trailer shows us that Tony’s death will be a major plot point in this movie and it should be. Tony was Peter’s mentor and seeing how close they were this is crucial in Peter’s journey as a hero. One of the highlights of Endgame is when Tony hugs Peter for the first time in five years. However I do hope that this movie uses his death in a meaningful way. I don’t want it to be a depressing shadow on the movie, I want Peter to learn from it and use it to evolve as not only a hero but as a character. I am really happy that Happy is in this movie too, he is one of my favourite MCU characters. I would love to see Pepper give Peter a talk about Tony but I don’t think that will happen.
This is definitely an unpopular opinion but my favourite parts of Spider-Man: Homecoming weren’t the cool action scenes, but the personal scenes with Peter and his friends and family. In my opinion Homecoming worked better as a coming-of-age drama than an action movie. Having seen the trailer for Far From Home, my wish is for more of those small scenes with Peter and his friends and this vacation seems to be the perfect opportunity for that. Mysterio looks very cool but I did not like the Multiverse part. In my opinion the Multiverse is too big a story to feature in a Spider-Man movie. That storyline would suit the upcoming Eternals movie much better or even Guardians of the Galaxy 3.
With Disney’s recent purchase of 20th Century Fox and Sony sharing the rights to Spider-Man with Marvel, this leaves endless possibilities for what could happen to the MCU in the future. The most rumored possibilities are that the X-Men, Deadpool and the Fantastic 4 will finally join the MCU via the Multiverse. That’s simple enough to an extent. If Far From Home does it’s job and explains the Multiverse well then there’s no problem. However these would have to be completely new versions of these characters, with the exception of Deadpool. I say this because fans of the MCU might not necessarily be fans of Fox’s X-Men franchise and 10 movies as homework is not exactly everyone’s idea of fun.
What stuck out to me was the idea that the animated Spider-Verse characters could actually crossover into the MCU because of the Multiverse. Fans recently have been begging for this to happen. For some reason when I first heard about this, I didn’t like it at all and after thinking about it for some time I know why. If the characters do crossover and do well in live-action, will there be any more animated movies regarding the Spider-Verse? Secondly while I would kill to see Peter and Miles meet, where would Into The Spider-Verse fit into the MCU? Will it become too complicated?
Where do you stand on this Multiverse situation?
Do you think it will become too much for regular movie-goers?
What are you looking forward to the most in Far From Home?
