Almost 41 years ago in 1978, Michael Myers terrorized the streets of Haddonfield chasing for innocent babysitter Laurie Strode. After a terrifying match with the killer, she escaped alive and he was arrested. Last year, he escaped and went on a revenge murder spree hunting for Strode, luckily she was prepared. After a long generational fight the monster, Strode and her family escaped believing Myers to be dead.
However as we know by now, the evil never dies, it disappears for a while until it resurfaces, which is exactly what Myers is doing until October 2020. Yes that’s right, with the incredible success of last year’s Halloween movie which grossed over $255 million dollars, an extreme achievement for a slasher film, Blumhouse Productions are confirmed to be making two new Halloween sequels which will finally end The Saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode!
Yesterday Universal released a video titled “Halloween Announcement” which features the titles and release dates for the two sequels. The movies are called “Halloween Kills” and “Halloween Ends” and they’ll be coming in October in 2020 and 2021. So, let’s talk about these two movies.
Halloween Kills (October 16, 2020)
There have been no clues as to what the story will include. We can assume that it will either take place exactly where Halloween (2018) left off or a few years later. I think it makes more sense that this movie takes place a few years later especially since both Michael and Laurie got a beating last time they met, they need to recharge for the final showdown! Judging from the title I think this movie might be even gorier than previous Halloween movies. Michael is even more pissed now and I can only imagine what his vengeance will lead him to do. The sequel will start filming this September so hopefully we can get an early first look from some set photos.
Halloween Ends (October 15, 2021)
To be honest this movie was a complete surprise to me. I was under the impression that there was only enough story left for one movie. Director David Gordon Green imagined the story to last two movies. In fact he was going to shoot both Halloween (2018) and Halloween Kills back to back but he then decided not to because he was unsure of how the audience and the fans will receive Halloween (2018). Judging by the title we can assume that this will actually be the final showdown between Michael Myers and Laurie Strode. Who will make it out alive?
It is confirmed that Green will be back to direct these two movies and that Jamie Lee Curtis will reprise her role in both movies as well. I liked Halloween (2018) a lot so I am actually really happy for this announcement. It’s time for Myers to take back his holiday. If there is one thing which bothers me it’s that Halloween (2018) wasn’t dubbed Halloween Returns. These movies will do great at the box-office, it is easy money. Usually in October horror movies seem to be replaced with some family-friendly Halloween movie like the live-action Goosebumps. Slasher movies are a teen favourite and what perfect time is there to watch Myers slash than in October?
